SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE, Va. — The Big Bass Tour made a major statement in Virginia as the Avix Tire Big Bass Classic at Smith Mountain Lake delivered record-setting participation, strong numbers, and a wire-to-wire victory that never let up. 

When the scales closed after three days of competition, it was Steve McCamey who claimed the top spot with an 8.41-pound largemouth, a fish he brought in during hour five of day one, and one that held strong through the remainder of the tournament. 

McCamey’s catch not only earned him the overall victory, but also the keys to a brand new Nitro Z18 powered by Mercury Marine

Record Field, Big Moment 
The 2026 stop at Smith Mountain Lake set a new benchmark, drawing a record-breaking field of 1,085 anglers, the largest in the event’s 16-year history. 

With that many anglers on the water, the pressure was high, but McCamey’s early fish proved to be the one no one could beat.

  • Friday: 185 fish (4.19 avg, 8.41 big bass) 
  • Saturday: 153 fish (4.17 avg) 
  • Sunday: 132 fish (3.98 avg, 7.98 big bass) 

The steady bite kept anglers engaged all weekend, with plenty of opportunities to cash in during hourly payouts.
