Deep Dive | Updated Conditions Report for Smith Mountain Lake
Published on 05-01-2024
Here’s a quick breakdown of the current conditions on Smith Mountain Lake this week, brought to you by the Deep Dive App.
Water Clarity
Feeder creeks which were quite muddy a few weeks ago have cleared up and the overall water clarity of Smith Mountain Lake is clear. Storms early this week could stain up the creeks again so be sure to check the Deep Dive App for updated water clarity later in the week.
Tournament Patterns
For post-spawn patterns with water temps usually between 68-75˚F, historical data shows that most of the tournament winning catches come from the upper end of the lake in both the main lake and the back half of the creeks. Shallow water patterns in both of these sections of the lake overperform the offshore patterns.
Deep Dive’s database features over 10,000 tournament patterns from Top 10 finishes in major fishing tournaments.
Wind Effects
On Thursday expect low winds from the North in the morning, increasing to moderate winds from the East in the afternoon.
Friday follows a similar pattern with low winds from the North in the morning, increasing to moderate winds from the South in the afternoon.
Saturday will have moderate winds most of the day from the Southeast.
Sunday will have low winds from the East in the morning and low to moderate winds from the South in the afternoon.
